Why do I get bad breath from a sore throat?
Posted on August 31st, 2010
I have a little bit of a "stratchy" throat right now, and everytime that happens my breath smells. I tried eating yogurt to get rid of the bacteria…I’m just wondering why that happens and how I can get rid of my bad breath?

Saliva has antimicrobial properties, and in the absence of it bacteria can grow in there. I would suggest chewing gum or sucking on candy and drinking lots of water to get your saliva flowing. And of course brushing, flossing, tongue scraping and using mouth rinse are good for getting rid of bad breath.

Physical ailments have an odor; this is how animals can be used to sniff out diseases in people. It is normal although embarrassing. I would suggest peeling some ginger root and chopping off a small piece [it is very spicy] and chewing it. Not only will it help your sore throat but it will also freshen your breath. You might also try flossing your teeth more and brushing your tongue and around your gums more frequently right now.
