Cure For Bad Breath – Natural Ways to Eliminate Bad Breath

Want to know a cure for bad breath? Bad breath is not only a health problem, but a social one as well. It is an embarrassment for anyone to have. But should you be suffering from bad breath, rest assured that there are cures for bad breath that are safe, natural, and effective. Specific cures for bad breath depend on the cause.

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria in the mouth, particularly on the surface of the tongue. It can be caused by poor dental hygiene, mouth infections, dryness of the mouth, stress, and external factors like cigarettes, smoke and coffee, among others. Less common causes of bad breath are stomach and intestinal problems, respiratory tract infections, and major body illnesses like diabetes and liver diseases.

If you feel you have bad breath, your doctor or dentist may help you identify the cause. This is helpful especially if you have halitosis, or chronic bad breath.

How to cure bad breath

Conventional cures for bad breath are antiseptic mouthwashes and medications. However, some of the best remedies for bad breath can be found in nature or in your home.

Cure For Bad Breath # 1: Mint oil is in!
You see mint in almost every breath-freshening product but the most effective and potent of all to use is arguably the peppermint oil – yes, that essential oil usually used for aromatherapy. A drop of that pure essential oil on the tongue can freshen your breath quickly and naturally.

Also helpful is tea tree oil, a powerful antiseptic normally recommended for skin problems. As this oil is quite strong, just drop a very small amount on your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it.

Cure For Bad Breath # 2: Spice is nice. Seeds, too!

While some spices like pepper can make your mouth hot (and for some, smell unpleasant), a few like cloves actually have an antiseptic effect on the mouth and are a good remedy for bad breath. You can chew on cloves or grind them and prepare them as tea.

The seeds normally used as condiments like fennel and anise seeds are good breath sweeteners. Anise, in particular, has curative properties and kills odor-causing bacteria. Since these seeds are dry and can keep for quite some time, they are convenient to carry around with you. Simply chew on them after a meal.

Cure For Bad Breath # 3: Cool off with a lemon.

Not only is lemon good for lemonade and as a household cleaning agent, it is great natural cure for bad breath as well! Suck on a slice of lemon and feel your breath cleansed and freshened instantly.

How to Avoid Bad Breath in the Morning

Posted on November 24th, 2009

Morning breath affects virtually everyone. While it is reckoned that up to a third of the population gets chronic bad breath problems during the day, the appalling truth about morning breath is that almost nobody escapes its grasp, with it inflicting almost the entire world.

One funny fact about morning breath is that it actually has very little to do with the time of day! Instead, your bad breath in the morning comes as a direct result of you sleeping, so perhaps the term “wake up breath” would be more appropriate than the term “morning breath.”

What happens is that while you sleep, some of your body’s functions are retarded (slowed down). This is done as a protective measure. One of the things that is slowed down while you sleep is your salivation. Can you imagine what would happen if you salivated at your usual pace while you were sleeping? It would cause problems, to be sure. The thing is, saliva is a big part of what helps keep our mouth clean and fresh.

Most people who want to cure their morning breath interact with others early in the morning. But perhaps you don’t even need to be told that you have bad breath in the morning. Maybe the bad taste in your mouth might be enough to inspire change. Don’t worry, as I’ve already said — statistics show that you are not alone. Not by a long shot.

Want to hear something great? If you get rid of your morning breath, you’ll also get rid of other problems that are commonly associated with it, such as a sour or metallic taste when you wake up.

I’m sure by now you’ve had enough theory, so let’s talk about something that you can actually use and put into practice. First, let me remind you that saliva has a positive effect on your breath. Do you know why? It’s because saliva is a major carrier of oxygen, which is a natural enemy of the bacteria that give you bad breath. To get rid of the bad breath in the morning, you will have to introduce extra oxygen into your mouth before bed.

The easiest way to supply your mouth with a healthy dose of oxygen is to do a rinse and gargle with hydrogen peroxide and salt water before bed. This will do a good job at creating an inhabitable environment for the evil bacteria that cause bad breath. There are also a few commercial products that will get the job done.

Most people seem to think that morning breath is just a “normal part of life” and that you should just “deal with it.” But the cure is fast, simple, and works in 30 seconds a day. That makes morning breath not worth living with, in my opinion.

Here is some additional information about bad breath in the morning, for those who want it: Stop Morning Breath. It may be that you suffer from general halitosis, in which case this website has all the information on cures that you will need: Cure for Bad Breath.

Constant bad breath. Do I need medication?

Posted on January 19th, 2011

I have very good dental hygiene. I see a dentist regularly and always receive good feedback. I brush 3-4 times a day, floss every night, and gargle with mouthwash too. However, about 30 minutes after brushing, my breath starts to taste and smell very stale. I’m constantly eating mints and I always chew gum which my bf hates and always get asked to spit out at work too. I’m not sure what else to do. I drink water, eat bananas, have tried all the natural cures for bad breath. Is there a medication I can take to help with this?

Posted on April 25th, 2010

I’m not looking for cures for bad breath, but I actually want to prevent periodontal infection, and some say salt water with a high enough salt content can prevent infections. Is this true?

Why Bad Breath is Such An Embarassing Problem

Posted on October 19th, 2009

Bad breath is a huge problem that not everyone fully realizes. The big problem at play is that most people, even dentists, believe that bad breath is merely a consequence of failure to maintain a clean mouth. While lack of proper brushing and flossing definitely contributes to bad breath in most people, it’s by no means the whole story. There are many people who suffer from bad breath no matter how much they brush.

The problem with this is that when people go out in public with bad breath, people automatically assume that it is their fault. Those with bad breath are often assumed to simply be unclean or lazy.

The truth of the matter is that for some people, brushing and flossing is just not enough. I’m one of those people, so I speak from experience. I’ve known people who had horrible oral hygiene and still never seemed to have too much trouble with their breath. And then there’s people like me, brushing several times a day, almost to the point of obsession, who still seem to have trouble keeping their breath under control.

An even bigger problem that can stem from chronic bad breath is the paranoia that comes with it. Granted, much of the fear is very real; I am not downplaying the seriousness of the problem. But still; imagine always worrying about your breath, even when it’s actually not that bad. Because our bodies filter out our own odors, it can be nearly impossible to always know exactly how fresh we are. The fear never really leaves you.

The reasons that some people suffer from bad breath while others don’t is a bit complex for this article, but let’s just say that everyone’s mouth is slightly different, especially when it comes to the tongue. The tongue is the main culprit in allowing the bacteria that cause bad breath to flourish.

However, while a popular remedy, a tongue scraper is usually not enough to cure bad breath on its own. There is a common misconception out there that a tongue scraper is all you need to get rid of your bad breath.

Getting rid of even the most chronic bad breath is doable, but you must attack the bad breath at its source. You have to limit the growth of the bacteria that cause bad breath. That’s the only way to get naturally fresh breath that lasts throughout the day.
